Pet insurance helps provide peace of mind by providing financial assistance towards eligible vet expenses resulting from an unexpected illness or specified accidental injury. Pet Insurance Australia offers three different levels of cover to choose from depending on your requirements – you should consult the relevant Product Disclosure Statement for the full policy Terms and Conditions.
We love pets of all shapes and sizes. However, at this stage, we only offer insurance for cats and dogs. Breeds of cats and dogs that have been listed by your State or Territory as dangerous, prohibited or restricted are not covered.
We are proud to offer the GapOnlyTM service at participating vets, meaning for eligible treatments, clients will only need to pay the gap between the pet insurance benefit and vet’s invoice. If your current vet is not signed-up to utilise the GapOnlyTM service, clients can send their claim documents by post or lodge their claim via the online Pet Portal. All claim reimbursements are subject to the policy terms and conditions, exclusions, limits and excess.
Yes. We cover for hereditary and congenital conditions as long as there are no signs or symptoms of that condition prior to the commencement of your policy or within the applicable waiting period.
Like all insurance, anything that existed, or you were aware of prior to your policy is generally excluded from cover. Insurance policies are there to protect against the unexpected so for this reason, claims relating to pre-existing conditions are not covered. This helps keep coverage fair for all of our customers.
However, we know that some conditions can genuinely be resolved or cured. So for that reason, pre-existing conditions are assessed differently depending on whether they are chronic conditions or temporary conditions for your pet.

Yes. Once your pet is accepted and as long as you continue to renew your policy and pay your premiums with no break or gap in cover, your pet will be covered for eligible vet expenses for life (with cover subject to the applicable terms and conditions of the policy for each renewal period). You can apply for Pet Essentials cover as long as your pet is over 8 weeks of age and younger than 12 years. For Comprehensive and Major Medical cover, pets need to be over 8 weeks of age and younger than 9 years.
For adopted Pets, if you can provide us with proof of adoption or transfer of ownership papers we will only request veterinary history from the date you took ownership onwards. Refer to the Claims section of your PDS on page 36 (Major & Medical) or page 38 (Essentials) for full details on how to submit a claim and required documents.
